(Luke 17:11-19) 1Now Naaman,captainof the hostof the kingof Syria,was a greatmanwithhis master,and honourable,because by him the LORDhad givendeliveranceunto Syria:he was also a mightymanin valour,[but he was] a leper.2And the Syrianshad gone outby companies,and had brought away captiveout of the landof Israela littlemaid;and she waited onNaaman'swife.3And she saidunto her mistress,WouldGod my lord[were] withthe prophetthat [is] in Samaria!forhe would recoverhim of his leprosy.4And [one] went in,and toldhis lord,saying,Thus and thus saidthe maidthat [is] of the landof Israel.5And the kingof Syriasaid,Go to,go,and I will senda letterunto the kingof Israel.And he departed,and tookwith himtentalentsof silver,and sixthousand[pieces] of gold,and tenchangesof raiment. 6And he broughtthe letterto the kingof Israel,saying,Now when this letteris comeunto thee, behold, I have [therewith] sentNaamanmy servantto thee, that thou mayest recoverhim of his leprosy.7And it came to pass, when the kingof Israelhad readthe letter,that he renthis clothes,and said,[Am] I God,to killand to make alive,that this mandoth sendunto me to recovera manof his leprosy?whereforeconsider,I pray you, and seehow he seeketh a quarrelagainst me. 8And it was [so], when Elishathe manof Godhad heardthat the kingof Israelhad renthis clothes,that he sentto the king,saying,Wherefore hast thou rentthy clothes?let him comenow to me, and he shall knowthat there isa prophetin Israel.9So Naamancamewith his horsesand with his chariot,and stoodat the doorof the houseof Elisha.10And Elishasenta messengerunto him, saying,Goand washin Jordanseventimes,and thy fleshshall come againto thee, and thou shalt be clean.11But Naamanwas wroth,and went away,and said,Behold, I thought,He will surelycome outto me, and stand,and callon the nameof the LORDhis God,and strikehis handover the place,and recoverthe leper.12[Are] not Abanaand Pharpar,riversof Damascus,betterthan all the watersof Israel?may I not washin them, and be clean?So he turnedand went awayin a rage.13And his servantscame near,and spakeunto him, and said,My father,[if] the prophethad bidthee [do some] greatthing,wouldest thou not have done[it]? how much rather then,when he saithto thee, Wash,and be clean?14Then went he down,and dippedhimself seventimesin Jordan,according to the sayingof the manof God:and his fleshcame againlike unto the fleshof a littlechild,and he was clean. Gehazi's Greed and Leprosy 15And he returnedto the manof God,he and all his company,and came,and stoodbeforehim: and he said,Behold, now I knowthat [there is] no Godin all the earth,but in Israel:now therefore, I pray thee, takea blessingof thy servant.16But he said,[As] the LORDliveth,beforewhom I stand,I will receivenone. And he urgedhim to take[it]; but he refused.17And Naamansaid,Shall there not then, I pray thee, be givento thy servanttwomules'burdenof earth?for thy servantwill henceforth offerneither burnt offeringnor sacrificeunto othergods,but unto the LORD.18In this thingthe LORDpardonthy servant,[that] when my mastergoethinto the houseof Rimmonto worshipthere, and he leanethon my hand,and I bowmyself in the houseof Rimmon:when I bow downmyself in the houseof Rimmon,the LORDpardonthy servantin this thing.19And he saidunto him, Goin peace.So he departedfrom him a littleway. 20But Gehazi,the servantof Elishathe manof God,said,Behold, my masterhath sparedNaamanthis Syrian,in not receivingat his handsthat which he brought:but, [as] the LORDliveth,I will runafterhim, and takesomewhatof him.21So GehazifollowedafterNaaman.And when Naamansaw[him] runningafterhim, he lighted downfrom the chariotto meethim, and said,[Is] all well?22And he said,All [is] well.My masterhath sentme, saying,Behold, even now there be cometo me from mountEphraimtwoyoung menof the sonsof the prophets:givethem, I pray thee, a talentof silver,and twochangesof garments.23And Naamansaid,Be content,taketwo talents.And he urgedhim, and boundtwotalentsof silverin twobags,with twochangesof garments,and laid[them] upon twoof his servants;and they bare[them] beforehim.24And when he cameto the tower,he took[them] from their hand,and bestowed[them] in the house:and he let the mengo,and they departed.25But he went in,and stoodbefore his master.And Elishasaidunto him, Whence[comest thou], Gehazi?And he said,Thy servantwentno whither. 26And he saidunto him, Wentnot mine heart[with thee], when the manturnedagain from his chariotto meetthee? [Is it] a timeto receivemoney,and to receivegarments,and oliveyards,and vineyards,and sheep,and oxen,and menservants,and maidservants?27The leprosytherefore of Naamanshall cleaveunto thee, and unto thy seedfor ever.And he went outfrom his presencea leper[as white] as snow. |
