Elisha Multiplies the Widow's Oil

1Now there crieda certainwomanof the wivesof the sonsof the prophetsunto Elisha,saying,Thy servantmy husbandis dead;and thou knowestthat thy servantdid fearthe LORD:and the creditoris cometo takeunto him my twosonsto be bondmen.2And Elishasaidunto her, What shall I dofor thee? tellme, what hastthou in the house?And she said,Thine handmaidhath not any thing in the house,save a potof oil.3Then he said,Go,borrowthee vesselsabroadof all thy neighbours,[even] emptyvessels;borrow not a few.4And when thou art come in,thou shalt shutthe doorupon thee and upon thy sons,and shalt pour outinto all those vessels,and thou shalt set asidethat which is full.5So she wentfrom him, and shutthe doorupon her and uponher sons,whobrought[the vessels] to her; and she poured out.6And it came to pass, when the vesselswere full,that she saidunto her son,Bringme yet a vessel.And he saidunto her, [There is] not a vesselmore. And the oilstayed.7Then she cameand toldthe manof God.And he said,Go,sellthe oil,and paythy debt,and livethou and thy childrenof the rest.

The Shunammite Woman

(Matthew 10:40-42)

8And it fell on a day,that Elishapassedto Shunem,where [was] a greatwoman;and she constrainedhim to eatbread.And [so] it was, [that] as oftas he passed by,he turnedin thither to eatbread.9And she saidunto her husband,Behold now, I perceivethat this [is] an holymanof God,which passethby us continually.10Let us makea littlechamber,I pray thee, on the wall;and let us setfor him there a bed,and a table,and a stool,and a candlestick:and it shall be, when he comethto us, that he shall turnin thither.

11And it fell on a day,that he camethither, and he turnedinto the chamber,and laythere.12And he saidto Gehazihis servant,Callthis Shunammite.And when he had calledher, she stoodbeforehim.13And he saidunto him, Saynow unto her, Behold, thou hast been carefulfor us with all this care;what [is] to be donefor thee? wouldestthou be spokenfor to the king,or to the captainof the host?And she answered,I dwellamongmine own people.14And he said,What then [is] to be donefor her? And Gehazianswered,Verilyshe hath no child,and her husbandis old.15And he said,Callher. And when he had calledher, she stoodin the door.16And he said,About this season,according to the timeof life,thou shalt embracea son.And she said,Nay, my lord,[thou] manof God,do not lieunto thine handmaid.

17And the womanconceived,and barea sonat that seasonthat Elishahad saidunto her, according to the timeof life.

Elisha Raises the Shunammite's Son

18And when the childwas grown,it fell on a day,that he went outto his fatherto the reapers.19And he saidunto his father,My head,my head.And he saidto a lad,Carryhim to his mother.20And when he had takenhim, and broughthim to his mother,he saton her kneestill noon,and [then] died.21And she went up,and laidhim on the bedof the manof God,and shut[the door] upon him, and went out.22And she calledunto her husband,and said,Sendme, I pray thee, oneof the young men,and oneof the asses,that I may runto the manof God,and come again.23And he said,Wherefore wilt thou goto him to day?[it is] neither new moon,nor sabbath.And she said,[It shall be] well.24Then she saddledan ass,and saidto her servant,Drive,and go forward;slacknot [thy] ridingfor me, except I bidthee.25So she wentand cameunto the manof Godto mountCarmel.And it came to pass, when the manof Godsaw her afar off,that he saidto Gehazihis servant,Behold, [yonder is] thatShunammite:26Runnow, I pray thee, to meether, and sayunto her, [Is it] wellwith thee? [is it] wellwith thy husband?[is it] wellwith the child?And she answered,[It is] well.27And when she cameto the manof Godto the hill,she caughthim by the feet:but Gehazicame nearto thrust her away.And the manof Godsaid,Let her alone;for her soul[is] vexedwithin her: and the LORDhath hid[it] from me, and hath not toldme.28Then she said,Did I desirea sonof my lord?did I not say,Do not deceiveme?

29Then he saidto Gehazi,Gird upthy loins,and takemy staffin thine hand,and go thy way:if thou meetany man,salutehim not; and if anysalutethee, answer him not again:and laymy staffupon the faceof the child.30And the motherof the childsaid,[As] the LORDliveth,and [as] thy soulliveth,I will not leavethee. And he arose,and followedher.31And Gehazipassed onbeforethem, and laidthe staffupon the faceof the child;but [there was] neither voice,nor hearing.Wherefore he went againto meethim, and toldhim, saying,The childis not awaked.

32And when Elishawas comeinto the house,behold, the childwas dead,[and] laidupon his bed.33He went intherefore, and shutthe doorupon them twain,and prayedunto the LORD.34And he went up,and layupon the child,and puthis mouthupon his mouth,and his eyesupon his eyes,and his handsupon his hands:and he stretchedhimself upon the child; and the fleshof the childwaxed warm.35Then he returned,and walkedin the housetoand fro;and went up,and stretchedhimself upon him: and the childsneezedseventimes,and the childopenedhis eyes.36And he calledGehazi,and said,Callthis Shunammite.So he calledher. And when she was come inunto him, he said,Take upthy son.37Then she went in,and fellat his feet,and bowedherself to the ground,and took upher son,and went out.

Elisha Purifies the Poisonous Stew

38And Elishacame againto Gilgal:and [there was] a dearthin the land;and the sonsof the prophets[were] sittingbeforehim: and he saidunto his servant,Seton the greatpot,and seethepottagefor the sonsof the prophets.39And onewent outinto the fieldto gatherherbs,and founda wildvine,and gatheredthereof wildgourdshis lapfull,and cameand shred[them] into the potof pottage:for they knew[them] not.40So they poured outfor the mento eat.And it came to pass, as they were eatingof the pottage,that they cried out,and said,O [thou] manof God,[there is] deathin the pot.And they couldnot eat[thereof].41But he said,Then bringmeal.And he cast[it] into the pot;and he said,Pour outfor the people,that they may eat.And there was no harmin the pot.

Feeding a Hundred Men

42And there camea manfrom Baalshalisha,and broughtthe manof Godbreadof the firstfruits,twentyloavesof barley,and full ears of cornin the huskthereof. And he said,Giveunto the people,that they may eat.43And his servitorsaid,What, should I setthis beforean hundredmen?He said again,Givethe people,that they may eat:for thus saiththe LORD,They shall eat,and shall leave[thereof].44So he set[it] beforethem, and they did eat,and left[thereof], according to the wordof the LORD.
