Reaffirm Your Love
1ButI determinedthiswith myself,that I wouldnotcomeagaintoyouinheaviness.2ForifImakeyousorry,whois hethenthat makethmeglad,butthe same which is made sorrybyme?3AndI wrotethissameunto you,lest,when I came,I should havesorrowfromthem of whomIoughtto rejoice;having confidenceinyouall,thatmyjoyis[the joy] of youall.4Forout ofmuchafflictionandanguishof heartI wroteunto youwithmanytears;notthatye should be grieved,butthatye might knowthe lovewhichI havemore abundantlyuntoyou.
5Butif anyhave caused grief,he hathnotgrievedme,butinpart:thatI maynotoverchargeyouall.6Sufficientto such a man[is] thispunishment,which[was inflicted] ofmany.7Sothat contrariwiseye[ought] ratherto forgive[him], andcomfort[him], lestperhapssuch a oneshould be swallowed upwith overmuchsorrow.8WhereforeI beseechyouthat ye would confirm[your] lovetowardhim.9Fortothis endalsodid I write,thatI might knowthe proofof you,whetherye beobedientinall things.10<1161> To whomye forgiveany thing,I[forgive] also:forif Iforgaveany thing,to whomI forgave[it], for your sakes[forgave I it] inthe personof Christ;11LestSatanshould get an advantage of us:forwe are notignorantof hisdevices.
Triumph in Christ
12Furthermore,when I cametoTroasto[preach] Christ'sgospel,anda doorwas openedunto meofthe Lord,13I hadnorestin myspirit,because IfoundnotTitusmybrother:buttaking my leaveof them,I went from thenceintoMacedonia.
14Nowthanks[be] unto God,which alwayscausethusto triumphinChrist,andmaketh manifestthe savourof hisknowledgebyusineveryplace.15Forwe areunto Goda sweet savourof Christ,inthem that are saved,andinthem that perish:16Tothe one[we are] the savourof deathuntodeath;andto the otherthe savourof lifeuntolife.Andwho[is] sufficientforthese things?17Forwe arenotasmany,which corruptthe wordof God:butasofsincerity,butasofGod,in the sightof Godspeak weinChrist.
