God's Promise and Warning
(1 Kings 9:1-9) 11Thus Solomonfinishedthe houseof the LORD,and the king'shouse:and all that cameinto Solomon'sheartto makein the houseof the LORD,and in his own house,he prosperously effected. 12And the LORDappearedto Solomonby night, and saidunto him, I have heardthy prayer, and have chosenthis placeto myself for an houseof sacrifice.13IfI shut upheaventhat there be no rain,or if I commandthe locuststo devourthe land,or if I sendpestilenceamong my people;14If my people, which are calledby my name, shall humblethemselves, and pray, and seekmy face, and turnfrom their wickedways;then will I hearfrom heaven, and will forgivetheir sin,and will healtheir land.15Now mine eyesshall be open, and mine earsattentunto the prayer[that is made] in this place.16For now have I chosenand sanctifiedthis house, that my namemay be there forever:and mine eyesand mine heartshall be there perpetually.17And as for thee, if thou wilt walkbeforeme, as Davidthy fatherwalked, and doaccording to all that I have commandedthee, and shalt observemy statutesand my judgments;18Then will I stablishthe throneof thy kingdom, according as I have covenantedwith Davidthy father, saying,There shall not failthee a man[to be] rulerin Israel. 19But if ye turn away, and forsakemy statutesand my commandments, which I have setbeforeyou, and shall goand serveothergods, and worshipthem;20Then will I pluck them up by the rootsout of my landwhich I have giventhem; and this house, which I have sanctifiedfor my name, will I cast outof my sight, and will makeit [to be] a proverband a bywordamong all nations.21And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishmentto every one that passethby it; so that he shall say,Why hath the LORDdonethus unto this land, and unto this house?22And it shall be answered,Because they forsookthe LORDGodof their fathers, which brought them forthout of the landof Egypt, and laid holdon othergods, and worshippedthem, and servedthem: therefore hath he broughtall this evilupon them. |
