(2 Kings 16:1-9) 1Ahaz[was] twentyyearsoldwhen he began to reign,and he reignedsixteenyearsin Jerusalem:but he didnot [that which was] rightin the sightof the LORD,like Davidhis father:2For he walked inthe waysof the kingsof Israel,and madealso molten imagesfor Baalim.3Moreover he burnt incensein the valleyof the sonof Hinnom,and burnthis childrenin the fire,after the abominationsof the heathenwhom the LORDhad cast outbeforethe childrenof Israel.4He sacrificedalso and burnt incensein the high places,and on the hills,and under every greentree. (Isaiah 1:1-9) 5Wherefore the LORDhis Goddeliveredhim into the handof the kingof Syria;and they smotehim, and carried awaya great multitudeof them captives,and brought[them] to Damascus.And he was also deliveredinto the handof the kingof Israel,who smotehim with a greatslaughter.6For Pekahthe sonof Remaliahslewin Judahan hundredand twentythousandin oneday,[which were] all valiantmen;because they had forsakenthe LORDGodof their fathers.7And Zichri,a mighty manof Ephraim,slewMaaseiahthe king'sson,and Azrikamthe governorof the house,and Elkanah[that was] nextto the king. 8And the childrenof Israelcarried away captiveof their brethrentwo hundredthousand,women,sons,and daughters,and took also awaymuchspoilfrom them, and broughtthe spoilto Samaria.9But a prophetof the LORDwas there, whose name[was] Oded:and he went outbeforethe hostthat cameto Samaria,and saidunto them, Behold, because the LORDGodof your fatherswas wrothwith Judah,he hath deliveredthem into your hand,and ye have slainthem in a rage[that] reacheth upunto heaven.10And now ye purposeto keep underthe childrenof Judahand Jerusalemfor bondmenand bondwomenunto you: [but are there] not with you, evenwith you, sinsagainst the LORDyour God?11Now hearme therefore, and deliverthe captivesagain, which ye have taken captiveof your brethren:for the fiercewrathof the LORD[is] upon you.12Then certainof the headsof the childrenof Ephraim,Azariahthe sonof Johanan,Berechiahthe sonof Meshillemoth,and Jehizkiahthe sonof Shallum,and Amasathe sonof Hadlai,stood upagainst them that camefrom the war,13And saidunto them, Ye shall not bring inthe captiveshither: for whereas we have offendedagainst the LORD[already], ye intendto add[more] to our sinsand to our trespass:for our trespassis great,and [there is] fiercewrathagainst Israel.14So the armed menleftthe captivesand the spoilbeforethe princesand all the congregation.15And the menwhich were expressedby namerose up,and tookthe captives,and with the spoilclothedall that were nakedamong them, and arrayedthem, and shodthem, and gave them to eatand to drink,and anointedthem, and carriedall the feebleof them upon asses,and broughtthem to Jericho,the cityof palm trees,totheir brethren:then they returnedto Samaria. (2 Kings 16:10-18;Amos 1:1-15) 16At that timedid kingAhazsendunto the kingsof Assyriato helphim.17For again the Edomiteshad comeand smittenJudah,and carried awaycaptives.18The Philistinesalso had invadedthe citiesof the low country,and of the southof Judah,and had takenBethshemesh,and Ajalon,and Gederoth,and Shochowith the villagesthereof, and Timnahwith the villagesthereof, Gimzoalso and the villagesthereof: and they dweltthere.19For the LORDbroughtJudahlowbecause of Ahazkingof Israel;for he madeJudahnaked,and transgressedsoreagainst the LORD.20And Tilgathpilneserkingof Assyriacameunto him, and distressedhim, but strengthenedhim not.21For Ahaztook away a portion[out] of the houseof the LORD,and [out] of the houseof the king,and of the princes,and gave[it] unto the kingof Assyria:but he helpedhim not. Ahaz's Idolatry 22And in the timeof his distressdid he trespassyet moreagainst the LORD:this [is that] kingAhaz.23For he sacrificedunto the godsof Damascus,which smotehim: and he said,Because the godsof the kingsof Syriahelpthem, [therefore] will I sacrificeto them, that they may helpme. But they were the ruinof him, and of all Israel.24And Ahazgathered togetherthe vesselsof the houseof God,and cut in piecesthe vesselsof the houseof God,and shut upthe doorsof the houseof the LORD,and he madehim altarsin every cornerof Jerusalem.25And in every several cityof Judahhe madehigh placesto burn incenseunto othergods,and provoked to angerthe LORDGodof his fathers. (2 Kings 16:19-20) 26Now the restof his actsand of all his ways,firstand last,behold, they [are] writtenin the bookof the kingsof Judahand Israel.27And Ahazsleptwith his fathers,and they buriedhim in the city,[even] in Jerusalem:but they broughthim not into the sepulchresof the kingsof Israel:and Hezekiahhis sonreignedin his stead. |
