1Now Jehoshaphatsleptwith his fathers, and was buriedwith his fathersin the cityof David. And Jehoramhis sonreignedin his stead.2And he had brethrenthe sonsof Jehoshaphat,Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah:all these [were] the sonsof Jehoshaphatkingof Israel.3And their fathergavethem greatgiftsof silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fencedcitiesin Judah:but the kingdomgavehe to Jehoram;because he [was] the firstborn.

4Now when Jehoramwas risen upto the kingdomof his father,he strengthenedhimself, and slewall his brethrenwith the sword, and [divers] also of the princesof Israel.5Jehoram[was] thirtyand twoyearsoldwhen he began to reign, and he reignedeightyearsin Jerusalem.6And he walkedin the wayof the kingsof Israel, like as didthe houseof Ahab:for he had the daughterof Ahabto wife:and he wrought[that which was] evilin the eyesof the LORD.7Howbeit the LORDwouldnot destroythe houseof David, because of the covenantthat he had madewith David, and as he promisedto givea lightto him and to his sonsfor ever.

Edom and Libnah Revolt

(2 Kings 8:20-24)

8In his daysthe Edomitesrevoltedfrom under the dominionof Judah, and madethemselves a king.9Then Jehoramwent forthwith his princes, and all his chariotswith him: and he rose upby night, and smotethe Edomiteswhich compassed him in,and the captainsof the chariots.10So the Edomitesrevoltedfrom under the handof Judahunto this day.The same time[also] did Libnahrevoltfrom under his hand;because he had forsakenthe LORDGodof his fathers.11Moreover he madehigh placesin the mountainsof Judah, and caused the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto commit fornication, and compelledJudah[thereto].

Elija's Letter to Jehoram

12And there camea writingto him from Elijahthe prophet, saying,Thus saiththe LORDGodof Davidthy father,Because thou hast not walkedin the waysof Jehoshaphatthy father, nor in the waysof Asakingof Judah,13But hast walkedin the wayof the kingsof Israel, and hast made Judahand the inhabitantsof Jerusalemto go a whoring, like to the whoredomsof the houseof Ahab, and also hast slainthy brethrenof thy father'shouse,[which were] betterthan thyself:14Behold, with a greatplaguewill the LORDsmitethy people, and thy children, and thy wives, and all thy goods:15And thou [shalt have] greatsicknessby diseaseof thy bowels, until thy bowelsfall outby reason of the sicknessdayby day.

Jehoram's Disease and Death

16Moreover the LORDstirred upagainst Jehoramthe spiritof the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that [were] nearthe Ethiopians:17And they came upinto Judah, and brakeinto it, and carried awayall the substancethat was foundin the king'shouse, and his sonsalso, and his wives;so that there was never a sonlefthim, save Jehoahaz, the youngestof his sons.

18And afterall this the LORDsmotehim in his bowelswith an incurabledisease.19And it came to pass, that in process of time, afterthe endof twoyears, his bowelsfell outby reasonof his sickness:so he diedof sorediseases. And his peoplemadeno burningfor him, like the burningof his fathers.20Thirtyand twoyears oldwas he when he began to reign, and he reignedin Jerusalemeightyears, and departedwithout being desired.Howbeit they buriedhim in the cityof David, but not in the sepulchresof the kings.
