Jehoshaphat Allies with Ahab

(1 Kings 22:1-12)

1Now Jehoshaphathad richesand honourin abundance,and joined affinitywith Ahab.2And after[certain] yearshe went downto Ahabto Samaria.And Ahabkilledsheepand oxenfor him in abundance,and for the peoplethat [he had] with him, and persuadedhim to go up[with him] to Ramothgilead.3And Ahabkingof Israelsaidunto Jehoshaphatkingof Judah,Wilt thou gowith me to Ramothgilead?And he answeredhim, I [am] as thou [art], and my peopleas thy people;and [we will be] with thee in the war.

4And Jehoshaphatsaidunto the kingof Israel,Enquire,I pray thee, at the wordof the LORDto day.5Therefore the kingof Israelgathered togetherof prophetsfourhundredmen,and saidunto them, Shall we goto Ramothgileadto battle,or shall I forbear?And they said,Go up;for Godwill deliver[it] into the king'shand.6But Jehoshaphatsaid,[Is there] not here a prophetof the LORDbesides, that we might enquireof him?7And the kingof Israelsaidunto Jehoshaphat,[There is] yet oneman,by whom we may enquireof the LORD:but I hatehim; for he never prophesiedgoodunto me, but alwaysevil:the same [is] Micaiahthe sonof Imla.And Jehoshaphatsaid,Let not the kingsayso.

8And the kingof Israelcalledfor one[of his] officers,and said,Fetch quicklyMicaiahthe sonof Imla.9And the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatkingof Judahsateitherof them on his throne,clothedin [their] robes,and they satin a void placeat the entering inof the gateof Samaria;and all the prophetsprophesiedbeforethem.10And Zedekiahthe sonof Chenaanahhad madehim hornsof iron,and said,Thus saiththe LORD,With these thou shalt pushSyriauntil they be consumed.11And all the prophetsprophesiedso, saying,Go upto Ramothgilead,and prosper:for the LORDshall deliver[it] into the handof the king.

Micaiah Prophesies against Ahab

(1 Kings 22:13-28)

12And the messengerthat wentto callMicaiahspaketo him, saying,Behold, the wordsof the prophets[declare] goodto the kingwith oneassent;let thy wordtherefore, I pray thee, be like oneof theirs, and speakthou good.13And Micaiahsaid,[As] the LORDliveth,even what my Godsaith,that will I speak.

14And when he was cometo the king,the kingsaidunto him, Micaiah,shall we goto Ramothgileadto battle,or shall I forbear?And he said,Go ye up,and prosper,and they shall be deliveredinto your hand.15And the kingsaidto him, How many timesshall I adjurethee that thou saynothing but the truthto me in the nameof the LORD?

16Then he said,I did seeall Israelscatteredupon the mountains,as sheepthat have no shepherd:and the LORDsaid,These have no master;let them return[therefore] every manto his housein peace.

17And the kingof Israelsaidto Jehoshaphat,Did I not tellthee [that] he would not prophesygoodunto me, but evil?

18Again he said,Therefore hearthe wordof the LORD;I sawthe LORDsittingupon his throne,and all the hostof heavenstandingon his right handand [on] his left.19And the LORDsaid,Who shall enticeAhabkingof Israel,that he may go upand fallat Ramothgilead?And one spakesayingafter this manner,and another sayingafter that manner.20Then there came outa spirit,and stoodbeforethe LORD,and said,I will enticehim. And the LORDsaidunto him, Wherewith?21And he said,I will go out,and be a lyingspiritin the mouthof all his prophets.And [the LORD] said,Thou shalt entice[him], and thou shalt also prevail:go out,and do[even] so.22Now therefore, behold, the LORDhath puta lyingspiritin the mouthof these thy prophets,and the LORDhath spokenevilagainst thee.

23Then Zedekiahthe sonof Chenaanahcame near,and smoteMicaiahupon the cheek,and said,Whichwaywentthe Spiritof the LORDfrom me to speakunto thee?24And Micaiahsaid,Behold, thou shalt seeon that daywhen thou shalt gointo an innerchamberto hidethyself.25Then the kingof Israelsaid,Takeye Micaiah,and carry him backto Amonthe governorof the city,and to Joashthe king'sson;26And say,Thus saiththe king,Putthis [fellow] in the prison,and feedhim with breadof afflictionand with waterof affliction,until I returnin peace.27And Micaiahsaid,If thou certainlyreturnin peace,[then] hath not the LORDspokenby me. And he said,Hearken,all ye people.

Ahab's Defeat and Death

(1 Kings 22:29-40)

28So the kingof Israeland Jehoshaphatthe kingof Judahwent upto Ramothgilead.29And the kingof Israelsaidunto Jehoshaphat,I will disguisemyself, and will goto the battle;but putthou on thy robes.So the kingof Israeldisguisedhimself; and they wentto the battle.30Now the kingof Syriahad commandedthe captainsof the chariotsthat [were] with him, saying,Fightye not with smallor great,save only with the kingof Israel.31And it came to pass, when the captainsof the chariotssawJehoshaphat,that they said,It [is] the kingof Israel.Therefore they compassed abouthim to fight:but Jehoshaphatcried out,and the LORDhelpedhim; and Godmovedthem [to depart] from him.32For it came to pass, that, when the captainsof the chariotsperceivedthat it was not the kingof Israel,they turned back againfrom pursuinghim.33And a [certain] man drewa bowat a venture,and smotethe kingof Israelbetween the jointsof the harness:therefore he saidto his chariotman,Turnthine hand,that thou mayest carry me outof the host;for I am wounded.34And the battleincreasedthat day:howbeit the kingof Israelstayed [himself] upin [his] chariotagainstthe Syriansuntil the even:and about the timeof the sungoing downhe died.
