(1 Kings 12:20-24) 1And when Rehoboamwas cometo Jerusalem,he gatheredof the houseof Judahand Benjaminan hundredand fourscorethousandchosen[men], which were warriors,to fightagainst Israel,that he might bringthe kingdomagainto Rehoboam.2But the wordof the LORDcame to Shemaiahthe manof God,saying,3Speakunto Rehoboamthe sonof Solomon,kingof Judah,and to all Israelin Judahand Benjamin,saying,4Thus saiththe LORD,Ye shall not go up,nor fightagainst your brethren:returnevery manto his house:for this thingis doneof me. And they obeyedthe wordsof the LORD,and returnedfrom goingagainst Jeroboam. Rehoboam Fortifies Judah
(1 Kings 14:21-24) 5And Rehoboamdweltin Jerusalem,and builtcitiesfor defencein Judah.6He builteven Bethlehem,and Etam,and Tekoa,7And Bethzur,and Shoco,and Adullam,8And Gath,and Mareshah,and Ziph,9And Adoraim,and Lachish,and Azekah,10And Zorah,and Aijalon,and Hebron,which [are] in Judahand in Benjaminfencedcities.11And he fortifiedthe strong holds,and putcaptainsin them, and storeof victual,and of oiland wine.12And in every several city[he put] shieldsand spears,and made them exceedingstrong,having Judahand Benjaminon his side. Priests and Levites Forsaken by Jeroboam 13And the priestsand the Levitesthat [were] in all Israelresortedto him out of all their coasts. 14For the Leviteslefttheir suburbsand their possession,and cameto Judahand Jerusalem:for Jeroboamand his sonshad cast them offfrom executing the priest's officeunto the LORD:15And he ordainedhim priestsfor the high places,and for the devils,and for the calveswhich he had made.16And afterthem out of all the tribesof Israelsuch as settheir heartsto seekthe LORDGodof Israelcameto Jerusalem,to sacrificeunto the LORDGodof their fathers.17So they strengthenedthe kingdomof Judah,and made Rehoboamthe sonof Solomonstrong,threeyears:for threeyearsthey walkedin the wayof Davidand Solomon. Rehoboam's Family 18And Rehoboamtookhim Mahalaththe daughterof Jerimoththe sonof Davidto wife,[and] Abihailthe daughterof Eliabthe sonof Jesse;19Which barehim children;Jeush,and Shamariah,and Zaham.20And afterher he tookMaachahthe daughterof Absalom;which barehim Abijah,and Attai,and Ziza,and Shelomith.21And RehoboamlovedMaachahthe daughterof Absalomabove all his wivesand his concubines:(for he tookeighteenwives,and threescoreconcubines;and begattwentyand eightsons,and threescoredaughters.)22And RehoboammadeAbijahthe sonof Maachahthe chief,[to be] ruleramong his brethren:for [he thought] to make him king.23And he dealt wisely,and dispersedof all his childrenthroughout all the countriesof Judahand Benjamin,unto every fencedcity:and he gavethem victualin abundance.And he desiredmanywives. |
