Solomon's Rule Consolidated

(2 Chronicles 1:1-6;Psalm 45:1-17;Psalm 72:1-20)

1And Solomonmade affinitywith Pharaohkingof Egypt,and tookPharaoh'sdaughter,and broughther into the cityof David,until he had made an endof buildinghis own house,and the houseof the LORD,and the wallof Jerusalemround about.2Only the peoplesacrificedin high places,because there was no housebuiltunto the nameof the LORD,until those days.

3And Solomonlovedthe LORD,walkingin the statutesof Davidhis father:only he sacrificedand burnt incensein high places.4And the kingwentto Gibeonto sacrificethere; for that[was] the greathigh place:a thousandburnt offeringsdid Solomonofferupon that altar.5In Gibeonthe LORDappearedto Solomonin a dreamby night:and Godsaid,Askwhat I shall givethee.

Solomon's Prayer for Wisdom

(2 Chronicles 1:7-13)

6And Solomonsaid,Thou hast shewedunto thy servantDavidmy fathergreatmercy,according as he walkedbeforethee in truth,and in righteousness,and in uprightnessof heartwith thee; and thou hast keptfor him this greatkindness,that thou hast givenhim a sonto siton his throne,as [it is] this day.7And now, O LORDmy God,thou hast made thy servantkinginstead of Davidmy father:and I [am but] a littlechild:I knownot [how] to go outor come in.8And thy servant[is] in the midstof thy peoplewhich thou hast chosen,a greatpeople,that cannot be numberednor countedfor multitude.9Givetherefore thy servantan understandingheartto judgethy people,that I may discernbetween goodand bad:for who is ableto judgethis thy so greata people?

God Grants Wisdom, Riches, Honor

10And the speechpleasedthe Lord,that Solomonhad askedthis thing.11And Godsaidunto him, Because thou hast askedthis thing,and hast not askedfor thyself longlife;neither hast askedrichesfor thyself, nor hast askedthe lifeof thine enemies;but hast askedfor thyself understandingto discernjudgment;12Behold, I have doneaccording to thy words:lo, I have giventhee a wiseand an understandingheart;so that there was none like thee beforethee, neither afterthee shall any ariselike unto thee.13And I have also giventhee that which thou hast not asked,both riches,and honour:so that there shall not be anyamong the kingslike unto thee all thy days.14And if thou wilt walkin my ways,to keepmy statutesand my commandments,as thy fatherDaviddid walk,then I will lengthenthy days.

15And Solomonawoke;and, behold, [it was] a dream.And he cameto Jerusalem,and stoodbeforethe arkof the covenantof the LORD,and offered upburnt offerings,and offeredpeace offerings,and madea feastto all his servants.

Solomon Judges Wisely

16Then camethere twowomen,[that were] harlots,unto the king,and stoodbeforehim.17And the onewomansaid,Omy lord,I and this womandwellin onehouse;and I was delivered of a childwith her in the house.18And it came to pass the thirddayafter that I was delivered,that this womanwas deliveredalso: and we [were] together;[there was] no strangerwith us in the house,savewe twoin the house.19And this woman'schilddiedin the night;because she overlaidit.20And she aroseat midnight,and tookmy sonfrom besideme, while thine handmaidslept,and laidit in her bosom,and laidher deadchildin my bosom.21And when I rosein the morningto give my childsuck,behold, it was dead:but when I had consideredit in the morning,behold, it was not my son,which I did bear.22And the otherwomansaid,Nay; but the living[is] my son,and the dead[is] thy son.And this said,No; but the dead[is] thy son,and the living[is] my son.Thus they spakebeforethe king.

23Then saidthe king,The onesaith,This [is] my sonthat liveth,and thy son[is] the dead:and the othersaith,Nay; but thy son[is] the dead,and my son[is] the living.24And the kingsaid,Bringme a sword.And they broughta swordbeforethe king.25And the kingsaid,Dividethe livingchildin two,and givehalfto the one,and halfto the other.26Then spakethe womanwhose the livingchild[was] unto the king,for her bowelsyearnedupon her son,and she said,Omy lord,giveher the livingchild,and in no wiseslayit. But the other said,Let it be neither mine nor thine, [but] divide[it].27Then the kingansweredand said,Giveher the livingchild,and in no wiseslayit: she [is] the motherthereof.28And all Israelheardof the judgmentwhich the kinghad judged;and they fearedthe king:for they sawthat the wisdomof God[was] in him,to dojudgment.
