KJV + Strong's The Amalekites Raid Ziklag 1And it came to pass, when Davidand his menwere cometo Ziklagon the thirdday,that the Amalekiteshad invadedthe south,and Ziklag,and smittenZiklag,and burnedit with fire;2And had taken the womencaptives,that [were] therein: they slewnot any,either greator small,but carried [them] away,and wenton their way.3So Davidand his mencameto the city,and, behold, [it was] burnedwith fire;and their wives,and their sons,and their daughters,were taken captives.4Then Davidand the peoplethat [were] with him lifted uptheir voiceand wept,until they had no more powerto weep.5And David'stwowiveswere taken captives,Ahinoamthe Jezreelitess,and Abigailthe wifeof Nabalthe Carmelite.6And Davidwas greatlydistressed;for the peoplespakeof stoninghim, because the soulof all the peoplewas grieved,every manfor his sonsand for his daughters:but Davidencouragedhimself in the LORDhis God. David Destroys the Amalekites 7And Davidsaidto Abiatharthe priest,Ahimelech'sson,I pray thee, bring me hitherthe ephod.And Abiatharbroughtthither the ephodto David.8And Davidenquiredat the LORD,saying,Shall I pursueafterthis troop?shall I overtakethem? And he answeredhim, Pursue:for thou shalt surelyovertake[them], and without failrecover[all].9So Davidwent,he and the sixhundredmenthat [were] with him, and cameto the brookBesor,where those that were left behindstayed.10But Davidpursued,he and fourhundredmen:for two hundredabode behind,which were so faintthat they could not go overthe brookBesor. 11And they foundan Egyptianin the field,and broughthim to David,and gavehim bread,and he did eat;and they made him drinkwater;12And they gavehim a pieceof a cakeof figs, and twoclusters of raisins:and when he had eaten,his spiritcame againto him: for he had eatenno bread,nor drunk[any] water,threedaysand threenights.13And Davidsaidunto him, To whom [belongest] thou? and whence [art] thou? And he said,I [am] a young manof Egypt,servantto an Amalekite;and my masterleftme, because threedaysagone I fell sick.14We made an invasion[upon] the southof the Cherethites,and upon [the coast] which [belongeth] to Judah,and upon the southof Caleb;and we burnedZiklagwith fire.15And Davidsaidto him, Canst thou bring me downto this company?And he said,Swearunto me by God,that thou wilt neither killme, nordeliverme into the handsof my master,and I will bring thee downto this company. 16And when he had brought him down,behold, [they were] spread abroadupon allthe earth,eatingand drinking,and dancing,because of all the greatspoilthat they had takenout of the landof the Philistines,and out of the landof Judah.17And Davidsmotethem from the twilighteven unto the eveningof the next day:and there escapednot a manof them, save fourhundredyoungmen,which rodeupon camels,and fled.18And Davidrecoveredall that the Amalekiteshad carried away:and Davidrescuedhis twowives.19And there was nothing lackingto them, neithersmallnor great,neither sonsnor daughters,neither spoil,nor any [thing] that they had takento them: Davidrecoveredall.20And Davidtookall the flocksand the herds,[which] they dravebeforethose[other] cattle,and said,This [is] David'sspoil. The Spoils are Divided 21And Davidcameto the two hundredmen,which were so faintthat they could not followDavid,whom they had made also to abideat the brookBesor:and they went forthto meetDavid,and to meetthe peoplethat [were] with him: and when Davidcame nearto the people,he salutedthem.22Then answeredall the wickedmenand [men] of Belial,of thosethat wentwith David,and said,Because they wentnot with us, we will not givethem [ought] of the spoilthat we have recovered,save to every manhis wifeand his children,that they may lead [them] away,and depart.23Then saidDavid,Ye shall not do so,my brethren,with that which the LORDhath givenus, who hath preservedus, and deliveredthe companythat cameagainst us into our hand.24For who will hearkenunto you in this matter?but as his part[is] that goeth down{08675;03381:08717} to the battle,so [shall] his part[be] that tarriethby the stuff:they shall partalike.25And it was [so] from that dayforward,that he madeit a statuteand an ordinancefor Israelunto this day. 26And when Davidcameto Ziklag,he sentof the spoilunto the eldersof Judah,[even] to his friends,saying,Behold a presentfor you of the spoilof the enemiesof the LORD;27To [them]which [were] in Bethel,and to [them] which [were] in southRamoth,and to [them] which [were] in Jattir,28And to [them] which [were] in Aroer,and to [them] which [were] in Siphmoth,and to [them] which [were] in Eshtemoa,29And to [them] which [were] in Rachal,and to [them] which [were] in the citiesof the Jerahmeelites,and to [them] which [were] in the citiesof the Kenites,30And to [them] which [were] in Hormah,and to [them] which [were] in Chorashan,and to [them] which [were] in Athach,31And to [them] which [were] in Hebron,and to all the placeswhere Davidhimself and his menwere wont to haunt. |
