(Psalm 57:1-11;Psalm 142:1-7) 1Davidtherefore departedthence, and escapedto the caveAdullam:and when his brethrenand all his father'shouseheard[it], they went downthither to him.2And every one[that was] in distress,and every onethat [was] in debt,and every one[that was] discontented,gatheredthemselves unto him; and he became a captainover them: and there were with him about fourhundredmen. 3And Davidwentthence to Mizpehof Moab:and he saidunto the kingof Moab,Let my fatherand my mother,I pray thee, come forth,[and be] with you, till I knowwhat Godwill dofor me.4And he broughtthem beforethe kingof Moab:and they dweltwith him all the whilethat Davidwas in the hold.5And the prophetGadsaidunto David,Abidenot in the hold;depart,and getthee into the landof Judah.Then Daviddeparted,and cameinto the forestof Hareth. Saul Slays the Priests of Nob 6When Saulheardthat Davidwas discovered,and the menthat [were] with him, (now Saulabodein Gibeahunder a treein Ramah,having his spearin his hand,and all his servants[were] standingabout him;)7Then Saulsaidunto his servantsthat stoodabout him, Hear now,ye Benjamites;will the sonof Jessegiveevery one of you fieldsand vineyards,[and] makeyou all captainsof thousands,and captainsof hundreds;8That all of you have conspiredagainst me, and [there is] none that shewethme that my sonhath made a leaguewith the sonof Jesse,and [there is] none of you that is sorryfor me, or shewethunto me that my sonhath stirred upmy servantagainst me, to lie in wait,as at this day?9Then answeredDoegthe Edomite,which was setover the servantsof Saul,and said,I sawthe sonof Jessecomingto Nob,to Ahimelechthe sonof Ahitub.10And he enquiredof the LORDfor him, and gavehim victuals,and gavehim the swordof Goliaththe Philistine. 11Then the kingsentto callAhimelechthe priest,the sonof Ahitub,and all his father'shouse,the prieststhat [were] in Nob:and they cameall of them to the king.12And Saulsaid,Hearnow, thou sonof Ahitub.And he answered,Here I [am], my lord.13And Saulsaidunto him, Why have ye conspiredagainst me, thou and the sonof Jesse,in that thou hast givenhim bread,and a sword,and hast enquiredof Godfor him, that he should riseagainst me, to lie in wait,as at this day? 14Then Ahimelechansweredthe king,and said,And who [is so] faithfulamong all thy servantsas David,which is the king'sson in law,and goethat thy bidding,and is honourablein thine house?15Did I thenbeginto enquireof Godfor him? be it far from me:let not the kingimpute[any] thingunto his servant,[nor] to all the houseof my father:for thy servantknewnothingof all this, lessor more.16And the kingsaid,Thou shalt surelydie,Ahimelech,thou, and all thy father'shouse.17And the kingsaidunto the footmenthat stoodabout him, Turn,and slaythe priestsof the LORD;because their handalso [is] with David,and because they knewwhen he fled,and did not shewit to me. But the servantsof the kingwouldnot put forththeir handto fallupon the priestsof the LORD.18And the kingsaidto Doeg,Turnthou, and fallupon the priests.And Doegthe Edomiteturned,and he fellupon the priests,and slewon that dayfourscoreand fivepersonsthat did weara linenephod.19And Nob,the cityof the priests,smotehe with the edgeof the sword,both menand women,childrenand sucklings,and oxen,and asses,and sheep,with the edgeof the sword. 20And oneof the sonsof Ahimelechthe sonof Ahitub,namedAbiathar,escaped,and fledafterDavid.21And AbiatharshewedDavidthat Saulhad slainthe LORD'Spriests.22And Davidsaidunto Abiathar,I knew[it] that day,when Doegthe Edomite[was] there, that he would surelytellSaul:I have occasioned[the death] of all the personsof thy father'shouse.23Abidethou with me, fearnot: for he that seekethmy lifeseekeththy life:but with me thou [shalt be] in safeguard. |
