Living for God's Glory
1Forasmuch then asChristhath sufferedforusin the flesh,armyourselveslikewisewith the samemind:forhe that hath sufferedinthe fleshhath ceasedfrom sin;2Thatheno longershould livethe restof [his] timeinthe fleshto the lustsof men,butto the willof God.3Forthe timepastof [our] lifemay sufficeusto have wroughtthe willof the Gentiles,when we walkedinlasciviousness,lusts,excess of wine,revellings,banquetings,andabominableidolatries:4Whereinthey think it strangethat yerunnotwith [them] tothe sameexcessof riot,speaking evil of[you]:5Whoshall giveaccountto him that isreadyto judgethe quickandthe dead.6Forforthis causewas the gospel preachedalsoto them that are dead,thatthey might be judgedaccording tomenin the flesh,butliveaccording toGodin the spirit.
7Butthe endof all thingsis at hand:be yethereforesober,andwatchuntoprayer.8Andaboveall thingshaveferventcharityamongyourselves:forcharityshall coverthe multitudeof sins.9Use hospitalityone to anotherwithoutgrudging.10Asevery manhath receivedthe gift,[even so] ministerthe sameone to another,asgoodstewardsof the manifoldgraceof God.11If any manspeak,[let him speak] asthe oraclesof God;if any manminister,[let him do it] asofthe abilitywhichGodgiveth:thatGodinall thingsmay be glorifiedthroughJesusChrist,to whombepraiseanddominionforeverand ever.Amen.
Suffering as Christians
12Beloved,think itnotstrangeconcerning thefiery trialwhichistotryyou,asthough some strange thinghappenedunto you:13Butrejoice,inasmuch asye are partakersof Christ'ssufferings;that,whenhisgloryshall be revealed,ye may be gladalsowith exceeding joy.14Ifye be reproachedforthe nameof Christ,happy[are ye]; forthe spiritof gloryandof Godrestethuponyou:ontheir parthe is evil spoken of,butonyour parthe is glorified.15Butletnoneof yousufferasa murderer,or[as] a thief,or[as] an evildoer,orasa busybody in other men's matters.16Yetif[any man suffer] asa Christian,let himnotbe ashamed;butlet him glorifyGodonthisbehalf.17Forthe time[is come] that judgmentmust beginatthe houseof God:andif[it] first[begin] atus,whatshall the end[be] of them that obey notthe gospelof God?18Andifthe righteousscarcelybe saved,whereshallthe ungodlyandthe sinnerappear?19Whereforeletthem that sufferaccording tothe willof Godcommit the keepingof theirsouls[to him] inwell doing,asunto a faithfulCreator.
