David's Address about the Temple

1And Davidassembledall the princesof Israel,the princesof the tribes,and the captainsof the companiesthat ministeredto the kingby course,and the captainsover the thousands,and captainsover the hundreds,and the stewardsover all the substanceand possessionof the king,and of his sons,with the officers,and with the mighty men,and with all the valiant men,unto Jerusalem.2Then Davidthe kingstood upupon his feet,and said,Hearme, my brethren,and my people:[As for me], I [had] in mine heartto buildan houseof restfor the arkof the covenantof the LORD,and for the footstoolof our God,and had made readyfor the building:3But Godsaidunto me, Thou shalt not buildan housefor my name,because thou [hast been] a manof war,and hast shedblood.4Howbeit the LORDGodof Israelchoseme before all the houseof my fatherto be kingover Israelfor ever:for he hath chosenJudah[to be] the ruler;and of the houseof Judah,the houseof my father;and among the sonsof my fatherhe likedme to make [me] kingover all Israel:5And of all my sons,(for the LORDhath givenme manysons,) he hath chosenSolomonmy sonto situpon the throneof the kingdomof the LORDover Israel.6And he saidunto me, Solomonthy son,he shall buildmy houseand my courts:for I have chosenhim [to be] my son,and I will be his father.7Moreover I will establishhis kingdomfor ever,if he be constantto domy commandmentsand my judgments,as at this day.8Now therefore in the sightof all Israelthe congregationof the LORD,and in the audienceof our God,keepand seekfor all the commandmentsof the LORDyour God:that ye may possessthis goodland,and leave [it] for an inheritancefor your childrenafteryou forever.

David's Charge to Solomon

9And thou, Solomonmy son,knowthou the Godof thy father,and servehim with a perfectheartand with a willingmind:for the LORDsearchethall hearts,and understandethall the imaginationsof the thoughts:if thou seekhim, he will be foundof thee; but if thou forsakehim, he will cast thee offfor ever.10Take heednow; for the LORDhath chosenthee to buildan housefor the sanctuary:be strong,and do[it].

11Then Davidgaveto Solomonhis sonthe patternof the porch,and of the housesthereof, and of the treasuriesthereof, and of the upper chambersthereof, and of the innerparloursthereof, and of the placeof the mercy seat,12And the patternof all that he had by the spirit,of the courtsof the houseof the LORD,and of all the chambersround about,of the treasuriesof the houseof God,and of the treasuriesof the dedicated things:13Also for the coursesof the priestsand the Levites,and for all the workof the serviceof the houseof the LORD,and for all the vesselsof servicein the houseof the LORD.14[He gave] of goldby weightfor [things] of gold,for all instrumentsof all manner of service;[silver also] for all instrumentsof silverby weight,for all instrumentsof every kind of service:15Even the weightfor the candlesticksof gold,and for their lampsof gold,by weightfor every candlestick,and for the lampsthereof: and for the candlesticksof silverby weight,[both] for the candlestick,and [also] for the lampsthereof, according to the useof every candlestick.16And by weight[he gave] goldfor the tablesof shewbread,for every table;and [likewise] silverfor the tablesof silver:17Also puregoldfor the fleshhooks,and the bowls,and the cups:and for the goldenbasons[he gave gold] by weightfor every bason;and [likewise silver] by weightfor every basonof silver:18And for the altarof incenserefinedgoldby weight;and goldfor the patternof the chariotof the cherubims,that spread out[their wings], and coveredthe arkof the covenantof the LORD.

19All [this, said David], the LORDmade me understandin writingby [his] handupon me, [even] all the worksof this pattern.

20And Davidsaidto Solomonhis son,Be strongand of good courage,and do[it]: fearnot, nor be dismayed:for the LORDGod,[even] my God,[will be] with thee; he will not failthee, nor forsakethee, until thou hast finishedall the workfor the serviceof the houseof the LORD.21And, behold, the coursesof the priestsand the Levites,[even they shall be with thee] for all the serviceof the houseof God:and [there shall be] with thee for all manner of workmanshipevery willingskilful man,for any manner of service:also the princesand all the people[will be] wholly at thy commandment.
