David's Triumphs
(2 Samuel 8:1-14;Psalm 60:1-12)
1Now after thisit came to pass, that Davidsmotethe Philistines,and subduedthem, and tookGathand her townsout of the handof the Philistines.2And he smoteMoab;and the Moabitesbecame David'sservants,[and] broughtgifts.
3And DavidsmoteHadarezerkingof Zobahunto Hamath,as he wentto stablishhis dominionby the riverEuphrates.4And Davidtookfrom him a thousandchariots,and seventhousandhorsemen,and twentythousandfootmen:Davidalso houghedall the chariot[horses], but reservedof them an hundredchariots.
5And when the Syriansof Damascuscameto helpHadarezerkingof Zobah,Davidslewof the Syrianstwoand twentythousandmen.6Then Davidput[garrisons] in Syriadamascus;and the Syriansbecame David'sservants,[and] broughtgifts.Thus the LORDpreservedDavidwhithersoever he went.7And Davidtookthe shieldsof goldthat were on the servantsof Hadarezer,and broughtthem to Jerusalem.8Likewise from Tibhath,and from Chun,citiesof Hadarezer,broughtDavidverymuchbrass,wherewith Solomonmadethe brasensea,and the pillars,and the vesselsof brass.
9Now when Toukingof Hamathheardhow Davidhad smittenall the hostof Hadarezerkingof Zobah;10He sentHadoramhis sonto kingDavid,to enquireof his welfare,and to congratulatehim, because he had foughtagainst Hadarezer,and smittenhim; (for Hadarezerhad warwith Tou;) and [with him] all manner of vesselsof goldand silverand brass.11Them also kingDaviddedicatedunto the LORD,with the silverand the goldthat he broughtfrom all [these] nations;from Edom,and from Moab,and from the childrenof Ammon,and from the Philistines,and from Amalek.
12Moreover Abishaithe sonof Zeruiahslewof the Edomitesin the valleyof salteighteenthousand.13And he putgarrisonsin Edom;and all the Edomitesbecame David'sservants.Thus the LORDpreservedDavidwhithersoever he went.
