Verse 17.- Threaten forstraitly threaten, A.V. and T.R. The subject ofthat it spread seems to be "a notable miracle." They could not deny that it had taken place, but they could prevent the knowledge of it spreading, by forbidding the apostles to speak of the Name of Jesus in which it had been wrought.
