I called upon the LORD

I cried out to my God

And from His temple He heard my voice
The reference to God's temple, though it was not yet built in David's time, symbolizes God's dwelling place and His readiness to hear the prayers of His people. It also foreshadows the New Testament understanding of believers as the temple of the Holy Spirit.

and my cry for help reached His ears

My cry did enter into his ears.--Literally,my cry in his ears,an elliptical expression which is filled out in the psalm, "my cry came before him, even into his ears."
