and He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand
This promise of victory is a direct assurance from God through the prophet Elisha. Historically, the Moabites were a frequent adversary of Israel, and their defeat would have been significant for the coalition of kings. This deliverance is reminiscent of other divine interventions in battles, such as the victory over the Amalekites inExodus 17:8-16. It also foreshadows the ultimate victory over sin and death through Jesus Christ, who delivers believers from spiritual enemies. The phrase underscores God's faithfulness to His covenant people and His ability to fulfill His promises.

• The armies of Israel, Judah, and Edom were exhausted and without water (2 Kings 3:9–10). From their viewpoint, survival itself looked impossible.

• Elisha’s declaration shifts the focus: “This is but a simple matter in the sight of the LORD”. Supplying water for entire armies and livestock is effortless for the God who “spoke, and it came to be” (Psalm 33:9) and for whom “nothing is too difficult” (Jeremiah 32:17).

• Scripture repeatedly highlights situations humans call hopeless and labels them easy for God—parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21–22), bringing water from rock (Numbers 20:11), or making dry bones live (Ezekiel 37:1–14).

• The verse reminds believers today that no personal crisis overwhelms the One who “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20).

• God’s promise moves beyond immediate relief to final victory: “He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand”. The Lord addresses both the armies’ present need (water) and their larger mission (defeating Moab).

• Throughout Israel’s history, assurance of triumph rests on God’s word rather than military strength—“Do not be afraid… for I have delivered them into your hand” (Joshua 10:8); “The battle belongs to the LORD” (1 Samuel 17:47).

• Obedience to His instructions would seal the outcome. The trenches they were told to dig (2 Kings 3:16) became channels for water and, at sunrise, appeared as blood to Moab (3:22–23), drawing the enemy into a rout God had already ordained.

• Victory here foreshadows a larger biblical pattern: God rescues and conquers on behalf of His people—seen ultimately in Christ’s triumph over sin and death (Colossians 2:15).

2 Kings 3:18 teaches that what we consider monumental—meeting desperate needs and overcoming formidable foes—is, to the Lord, “a simple matter.” He effortlessly supplies and simultaneously grants victory when His people trust and obey His revealed word. The verse invites unwavering confidence in God’s limitless power and faithfulness today.

He will deliver the Moabites.--The contrary of Jehoram's expectation (2Kings 3:10;2Kings 3:13).
