Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 (codenamedWindows MultiPoint Server "2") is the successor toWindows MultiPoint Server 2010 and the second release of Windows MultiPoint Server that was released to manufacturing on 21 February 2011[1] and later made generally available on 12 May 2011.[2] Unlike its predecessor, it comes in two SKUs which are the Standard and Premium editions. It is based onWindows Server 2008 R2 SP1.

Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 adds the ability to connect and add stations and thin clients over LAN via RDP. It also added support for RemoteFX supported thin clients. It adds an administration console interface that allows administrators to manage and monitor multiple WMS servers and stations. It also adds the ability for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials servers to back up entire WMS servers. Additionally, it also adds the ability to run WMS on virtual machines.
It also added additional administration management features such as the ability to project a single station's desktop to one or all stations, the ability to remotely lock the station's keyboard and mouse, the ability to remotely open and close applications on a station and restricting or blocking internet browsing of specific sites using a list.
