Plot[]
The original series, arguably the best, ran onCITV from 1997-2001. This series told of a young boy calledBernard who was always late, until apostman gave him a "magic watch" which could stop time. He soon found out that the postman had magical powers, and that these watches were given to people who needed them. The rules of him keeping his watch were that he could not use it to commit crimes or hurt anyone. Every episode focused on Bernard or someone he'd lent the watch to facing a problem or simply doing day-to-day stuff and trying to sort it out, using the watch.
Locations[]
The series was filmed in locations in and around the city ofNottingham in the East Midlands region of England where the show's producer Central Television (Carlton from 1998) was based at the time. According toDavid Peachey, the whole show was filmed on location.
Bernard's house was located at number 6 Bowness Close inGamston with number 12 standing in as Karen's house. Silverdale Community Centre hosted Karen's birthday party inStill Time. In the first four series, Bernard attended South Wilford CofE Primary School. The Park Estate is featured for its older large houses and the tennis court for Karen's tournament inGames Time and Clifton Leisure Centre hosted the swimming pool inSwim Time. Nottingham City Centre was shown in at least three episodes with the exterior of the Victoria Centre and platform 1b of the railway station briefly shown inTime Share. The "very tall building" inEnding Time was actually the parapet of a two storey complex opposite what is now the Park Plaza hotel on Maid Marian Way. The countryside in theborough of Rushcliffe including the village ofCotgrave is featured for its rural scenes such as inTime Travel.
