Old Time is the eleventh episode of series two of theOriginal series of Bernard's Watch. This episode was first broadcast on 23 October 1998.
Plot[]

The front door of the stately home.
Bernard likes takinghis grandfather's sandwiches to him at work as a curator at a stately home which the town council recently opened to the public as a museum. However, Grandad's colleague Gerry does not like him and gets him sacked by turning the clock forward before his uncle, Mr Potter Grandad's boss at the local park department, brings some very important visitors.
Grandad cannot even bring himself to get his belongings back so Bernard comes in his place. He sees Gerry playing in the garden with his girlfriend Mell and decides to play tricks on him using his watch. At first Bernard takes the croquet balls and puts the heads of a figurine in Gerry's arms. This convinces Mell the place was haunted and Gerry takes her inside for a cup of coffee. Inside, Bernard's moves the coffee mugs onto the tray of a butler figurine also scaring Gerry making them run for it.
Outside, Mr Potter meets Gerry who tells him to let Mr Foster (Grandad) show the visitors round. Back inside, Bernard meets a mysterious boy called Jonathan, who he first meets before Grandad was sacked, who complimented him on the tricks with the magic watch then he vanished in front of a portrait of himself. Bernard then meets Grandad, who is pleased to get his job back, and asks him if the house was haunted. Grandad replies that a boy died there during "the war" (presumably World War II) and is said to haunt the house. He shows Bernard his portrait, which was the one of Jonathan, which winks at Bernard as the episode ends.
Trivia[]
- This is the only episode to show a ghost. It is also revealed that ghosts are not affected by the watch.
- The local authority is described as a town council, hinting that Bernard lives in a fictional town (named as "Oakwood" inTime Travel), although the City of Nottingham logo is seen at the leisure centre inSwim Time and Bernard's street is in the village of Gamston, effectively a suburb of Nottingham, in the Bourough of Rushcliffe.
