William Rufus Day
William Rufus Day (1849-1923) was an Associate Justice on theSupreme Court of the United States. He was nominated to the court by PresidentTheodore Roosevelt on February 19, 1903. He served until his retirement on November 13, 1922. Prior to joining the court, Day was a judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.[1]
Day was one of three justices nominated to the Supreme Court by President Roosevelt. He served duringThe Fuller Court,The White Court andThe Taft Court.[2]
Education
Day received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 1870. He received his legal education byreading law.[1]

Supreme Court
Day was nominated by PresidentTheodore Roosevelt on February 19, 1903, to replace JusticeGeorge Shiras. He was confirmed by the Senate onFebruary 23, 1903, and received commission that same day. Day retired onNovember 13, 1922.[1]
Sixth Circuit
Day was previously afederal judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. He was nominated by PresidentWilliam McKinley on February 25, 1899, to a new seat created by 30 Stat. 803. He was confirmed by the Senate onFebruary 28, 1899, and received commission that same day. Day served on this court untilFebruary 23, 1903.[1]
