William Marcellin Hoeveler was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He joined the court in 1977 after being nominated by PresidentJimmy Carter.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Paris, France, Hoeveler graduated from Bucknell University with his bachelor's degree in 1947 and from Harvard Law School with hisLL.B. in 1950.[1]

Military service

Hoeveler served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946.[1]

Hoeveler was nominated by PresidentJimmy Carter on April 5, 1977, to a seat on theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Florida vacated byPeter Fay. Hoeveler was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on April 25, 1977, and he received his commission the next day. Hoeveler elected to takesenior status beginning on January 31, 1991, and served as a senior judge until his death on November 18, 2017. Hoeveler was succeeded in this position by JudgeWilkie Ferguson.[1]
