William Hand
William Brevard Hand (1924-2008) was afederal judge on theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.
Hand was nominated by PresidentRichard Nixon on July 26, 1971, to a seat vacated byDaniel Thomas; he was confirmed by the Senate on September 21, 1971, and received commission thenext day. He served aschief judge from 1981 until he assumedsenior status onJanuary 19, 1989. He served until his death onSeptember 6, 2008. Hand was succeeded in this position byRichard Vollmer.
