Wilfred Feinberg (b. 1920-d. 2014) was afederal appeals judge for theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit based inNew York City. He joined the court in 1966 after being nominated by PresidentLyndon Johnson. At the time of his appointment, Feinberg served on theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the district court in 1962 after an appointment fromJohn F. Kennedy. Feinberg assumedsenior status on January 31, 1991. He served on senior status until he passed away on July 31, 2014.^[1][2]

Early life and education

Feinberg graduated from Columbia University with his bachelor's degree in 1942 and with his law degree in 1946.^[2]

Military career

Feinberg served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945.^[2]

Judicial career

Second Circuit Court of Appeals

Feinberg was nominated by PresidentLyndon Johnson on January 19, 1966, to a seat vacated byThurgood Marshall as Marshall was nominated to theSupreme Court of the United States. Feinberg was confirmed by theSenate on March 4, 1966, on a voice vote and received commission onMarch 7, 1966. Feinberg served as thechief judge of the court from 1980 to 1988 before later assumingsenior status onJanuary 31, 1991.^[2] He was succeeded to this post byDennis Jacobs. Feinberg served on the court until his passing on July 31, 2014.

Southern District of New York

Feinberg received a recess appointment from PresidentJohn F. Kennedy on October 5, 1961, to a new seat created by 75 Stat. 80 which was approved byCongress. Feinberg was re-nominated by President Kennedy on January 15, 1962. Feinberg was confirmed by the U.S.Senate on March 16, 1962, on a voice vote and received commission onMarch 17, 1962. Feinberg left theSouthern District of New York on March 7, 1966, due to his appointment to theSecond Circuit Court of Appeals.^[2] He was succeeded to this post byMilton Pollack.
