Troup County School System is located inTroup County, Georgia. The county seat of Troup County is LaGrange. Troup County is home to 69,053 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] Troup County School System was the30th-largest school district inGeorgia, serving 12,751 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[2]

Demographics

Troup County underperformed in comparison to the rest of Georgia in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 19.7 percent of Troup County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 27.8 percent for Georgia as a whole. The median household income in Troup County was $40,246 compared to $49,604 for the state of Georgia. The poverty rate in Troup County was 22.1 percent compared to 17.4 percent for the entire state.[1]

Voter and candidate information

The Troup County Board of Education consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Each member is elected to a specific geographic district. There was noprimary election and thegeneral election was held on May 20, 2014. Three seats were up for election in 2014 and four seats will be up for election in 2016.[3]

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on March 3, 2014. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was March 7, 2014.[4]
