Recall reports

An effort torecall two or three members from their positions on theToledo Public Schools Board of Education inOhio was discussed in December 2014. At that time, recall organizer Earl Murry named board members Cecelia Adams and Lisa Sobecki as recall targets and hinted that a third member could also be a target. The recall effort, however, never went to the ballot. While several reasons for the recall were given at the time, proponents focused on the firing of district administrators Ronald Spitulski and Sandra Meeks-Speller.[1]

The terms of both Adams and Sobecki were set to expire at the end of 2015. Adams, however, resigned from the board in April 2015 after getting appointed to theToledo City Council.[2] Sobecki did not seek re-election in the general election on November 3, 2015.[3]

Recall supporters

Arguments for recall

Murry and his group argued that the board members failed to fully implement a performance review, used expensive outside legal counsel and disregarded referees' decisions regarding the termination of two employees. Spitulski, a student discipline hearing officer, and Meeks-Speller, an assistant principal, were both fired by the school board even though their referees had argued for them to be retained.[1]

Recall supporters stated they would begin pursuing the recall actively in January 2015.[1] The recall never made it to the ballot, however, and both targets ended their terms of their own accord in 2015.[2][3]
