Terence Thomas Evans was a federal judge for theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. He joined the court in 1995 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton and served the court until his death onAugust 10, 2011.[1][2]

Early life and education

A native ofMilwaukee, Evans graduated from Marquette University with his bachelor's degree in 1962 and later graduated from Marquette University Law School with hisJ.D. degree in 1967.[3]

Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals

On the unanimous recommendation of U.S. SenatorsHerb Kohl andRuss Feingold, Evans was nominated by PresidentBill Clinton on April 25, 1995, to a seat vacated by JudgeRichard Cudahy as Cudahy assumed senior status. Evans was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 11, 1995, on a majority voice vote and received commission onAugust 11, 1995.[4]

Eastern District of Wisconsin

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator William Proxmire, Evans was nominated by PresidentJimmy Carter on July 21, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. Evans was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 31, 1979, and received commission onNovember 2, 1979. Evans served as thechief judge of the court from 1991 to 1995 before leaving theEastern District of Wisconsin on August 11, 1995, due to his appointment to the Seventh Circuit.[3] Evans was succeeded in this position byCharles Clevert
