Two of the seven seats on theHillsborough County Public Schools Board of Education were up for general election onNovember 8, 2016. District 5 incumbent Doretha Edgecomb did not file for re-election, and five candidates vied for her seat on the board in the by-district primary election onAugust 30, 2016:Joe Jordon-Robinson,Lynette Judge,Jacqueline Leeks,Tarance LeNoir, andTamara Shamburger. Neither Jordon-Robinson nor Shamburger received more than 50 percent of the votes, and both advanced to the general election. Shamburger emerged victorious. In District 7, incumbent Carol Kurdell also did not file for re-election, and eight candidates competed for the seat in the primary:Joseph Caetano,Alan Clendenin,Norene Miller,Carlos Frontela,Lynn Gray,Stanley Gray,Catherine James, andRandy Toler. James and Lynn Gray advanced to the general election, and Gray won the seat. The District 1 and District 3 seats were also on the primary ballot. District 1 incumbentSusan Valdes faced one challenger to her seat:Bill Person. In District 3, incumbentCindy Stuart was up against newcomerAlicia Toler.
