Candidate Connection

Suzy Glowiak Hilton participated inBallotpedia's candidate survey on June 12, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Suzy Glowiak Hilton's responses follow below.[10]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

My top three priorities if elected would be property tax relief to alleviate the burden on middle-class families and make Illinois a more affordable state in which people want to stay; gun reform to prevent illegal guns from coming into the state and keeping our communities safe; and providing affordable, quality healthcare for all citizens and the elderly.[11][12]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

From my time on the Western Springs Village Board, I am passionate about government efficiency and eliminating redundant levels of government. This concept can be used in nearly every area of policy and as senator, I would implement efficient solutions into policy formation.Cite error: Invalid<ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[12]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Suzy Glowiak Hilton answered the following:

What qualities do you possess that would make you a successful officeholder?

From my career in engineering consulting, I am detail-oriented and able to find creative solutions to problems. Many of the problems currently facing our state require new perspective from a political outsider.[12]
What process do you favor for redistricting?
I would favor a process that is carried out by elected officials with complete transparency so that voters understand where and why the boundaries are drawn. The voters can demand accountability and boundaries should not allow incumbents to choose their voters.[12]
If you are not a current legislator, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
Since I have experience as a Village Trustee, I would like to be a part of the Local Government committee. I would also like to eliminate redundant levels of local government in the state. As a mechanical engineer, I have studied energy and have an interest in the environment and conservation.[12]

2014

Glowiak Hilton's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[13]

Suzy will invest in our state’s infrastructure, work to recruit and retain businesses in the 24th Legislative District and State of Illinois, and push for financial reforms that make Illinois a state in which people want to do business."
  • Education
Excerpt: "As a mother of three public school educated children, Suzy understands that no matter their zip code the Children of Illinois deserve a quality education. Suzy will support legislation that works to recruit and retain the highest quality teachers in the classroom, advocate for adequate funding for cash strapped suburban school districts, and fight to make college more affordable for all of Illinois Students."
  • Ethics
Excerpt: "Illinois is one of the most corrupt states in the Nation. Suzy will fight for ethics reform that restores the public’s faith in Springfield. Suzy will also support reforms to make state bidding processes more transparent, strengthen campaign finance laws."

Scorecards

See also:State legislative scorecards andState legislative scorecards in Illinois

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
