Early life and education

Born in Lexington,Tennessee, Anderson graduated from the University of Tennessee with his bachelor's degree in 1976 and from Memphis State University's Cecil Humphreys School of Law with hisJ.D. in 1980.^[1]

Anderson was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee by PresidentGeorge W. Bush on September 6, 2007, to a seat vacated byJames D. Todd. TheAmerican Bar Association rated AndersonUnanimously Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Anderson's nomination were held before theSenate Judiciary Committee on February 21, 2008, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen.Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on March 6, 2008. Anderson was confirmed on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate on April 10, 2008, and he received his commission on May 21, 2008. Anderson served as thechief judge of the court from 2017 to 2023.^[1][2][3][4]
