Thesignature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 27, 2015.[1] IncumbentSollie Norwood was unopposed in the Democratic primary. No Republican candidates filed for election. Norwood ran unchallenged in the District 28 general election.

Norwood won election in the special election for District 28 of theMississippi State Senate. The seat was vacant following the death ofAlice Harden (D) on December 6, 2012. Norwood facedCindy Ayers-Elliott,Tamarra Grace Butler,Marshand Crisler,Antonio Porter,James "Jimmy" Stewart,Kathy L. Sykes,Tommy L. Wallace, II andCassanda Welchlin in the special election on February 5, 2013. Candidates had until January 7 to file. Special elections in Mississippi are nonpartisan. As no candidate took over 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters - Crisler and Norwood - met in a runoff on February 26, which Norwood won.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
