Simeon Timothy Lake III is anArticle III federal judge onsenior status for theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He joined the court in 1988 after being nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan (R). Lake retired from full-time service, assumingsenior status, on July 5, 2019.

Drew Tipton was nominated by PresidentDonald Trump (R) to replace Lake on theU.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He was confirmed on June 3, 2020.

Early life and education

Born inChicago, Illinois, Lake graduated from Texas A & M University with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and from the University of Texas School of Law with hisJ.D. in 1969.[1]

Professional career

Lake was a private practice attorney inTexas from 1969 to 1970. Lake then served in the United States Army from 1970 to 1971. He resumed private practice in Texas from 1972 to 1988.[1]

Judicial career

Southern District of Texas

On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senator Phil Gramm, Lake was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Southern District of Texas by PresidentRonald Reagan (R) on March 30, 1988, to a seat vacated byRoss Sterling, Jr. as Sterling assumed senior status. Lake was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 11, 1988, and received commission onAugust 12, 1988. He retired from full-time service, assumingsenior status, on July 5, 2019.[1]

Drew Tipton was nominated by PresidentDonald Trump (R) to replace Lake on theU.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. He was confirmed on June 3, 2020.
