Ruggero Aldisert
Ruggero John Aldisert was afederal appeals judge with theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit inPhiladelphia. Aldisert served onsenior status from 1986 to 2014. He retired from the federal judiciary in August 2014.[1][2]
Education
Aldisert graduated from University of Pittsburgh with his bachelor's degree in 1941 and later received hisJ.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1947.[2]
Military service
Aldisert served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1946.[2]
Professional career
Aldisert spent fourteen years in private practice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 1947 to 1961. Next, he joined theCourt of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, where he served as a judge for seven years. During his judicial career, Aldisert also was an adjunct professor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.[2]
Judicial career
Aldisert was nominated to serve on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit by PresidentLyndon Johnson on July 17, 1968, to a seat vacated byAustin Staley. Aldisert was confirmed by the U.S.Senate on July 29, 1968, and received commission onJuly 29, 1968. Aldisert served as the aschief judge of the Court from 1984 to 1986 before assumingsenior status onDecember 31, 1986. He retired from the court in August 2014.[2]
