Ronald Gould
Ronald Murray Gould is afederal judge on theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He joined the court in 1999 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton.
Early life and education
Born inSt. Louis, Missouri, Gould graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with his B.A. in 1968, and from the University of Michigan Law School with hisJ.D. in 1973.[1]

Gould was first nominated to theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit by PresidentBill Clinton on November 8, 1997, to a seat vacated byRobert R. Beezer. Under Rule XXXI, paragraph six, of the standing rules of theUnited States Senate, Gould's nomination was returned to the president on October 21, 1998. On January 26, 1999, President Clinton resubmitted Gould's nomination. TheAmerican Bar Association rated GouldMajority Well Qualified, Minority Qualified, Minority Abstained for the nomination.[2] Hearings on Gould's nomination were held before theUnited States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on September 14, 1999, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen.Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on October 7, 1999. Gould was confirmed on a voice vote of theU.S. Senate on November 17, 1999, and he received his commission on November 22, 1999.[1][3][4]

Coverall settlement approved with nearly $1 million in attorneys' fees (2014)
In June 2014, a three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit, comprised of Judges Gould,Jay Bybee andEdward Chen (sitting by designation), affirmed nearly $1 million in attorneys’ fees as part of a class action settlement between Coverall, a janitorial company, and its franchisees. Judge Gould wrote the majority opinion in this case. The award was originally approved by JudgeJeffrey Miller of theSouthern District of California in February 2012.
