Rodney Scott Webb is a formerArticle III federal judge for theUnited States District Court for the District of North Dakota. He joined the court in 1987 after being nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan. Webb died onAugust 10, 2009 after a battle with cancer.^[1][2]

Early life and education

ANorth Dakota native, Webb graduated from the University of North Dakota inGrand Forks with his bachelor's andJ.D. Degrees in 1957 and 1959.^[3]

Professional career

From 1959 to 1981, Webb entered into private practice in the State ofNorth Dakota. In addition to his private practice work, Webb served as theWalsh County States Attorney from 1967 to 1974 and was a Special Assistant Attorney General for North Dakota on a part-time basis from 1970 to 1981. Webb began his judicial career as a part-time municipal judge for the City of Grafton, ND from 1975 to 1981 before being appointed by President Ronald Reagan as the US Attorney for the District of North Dakota from 1981-1987.^[3]

On the recommendation of the entire Congressional Delegation ofNorth Dakota, Webb was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 5, 1987, to a seat vacated byPaul Benson as Benson went on senior status. Webb was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 19, 1987 and received commission onDecember 21, 1987. Webb served as theChief Judge from 1993-2001 before assumingsenior status onDecember 31, 2001.^[3]
