Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. is thechief judge of theUnited States District Court for the District of Nebraska. Rossiter was nominated for the position by PresidentBarack Obama (D). He became chief judge in 2021. Prior to his elevation to the district court, he was a partner at the law firm of Fraser Stryker PC LLO.[1][2]

A native of Camp Lejeune,North Carolina, Rossiter earned his B.S. from Purdue University in 1978, and hisJ.D.,cum laude, from Creighton University School of Law in 1981.[2]

Rossiter was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the District of Nebraska by PresidentBarack Obama on June 11, 2015, to succeed JudgeJoseph Bataillon. TheAmerican Bar Association rated RossiterUnanimously Qualified for the nomination.[4] Hearings on Rossiter's nomination were held before theUnited States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on September 30, 2015, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen.Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on October 29, 2015. Rossiter was confirmed on a recorded 90-0 vote of theU.S. Senate on June 27, 2016, and he received his commission on June 29, 2016.[5][2]
