Richard W. Roberts is afederal judge onsenior status with theUnited States District Court for the District of Columbia. He joined the court in 1998 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton (D). He served aschief judge of the court from 2013 to 2016. Roberts assumedsenior status on March 16, 2016.[1][2]

Early life and education

Roberts earned a bachelor's degree from Vassar College in 1974. He earned a master's degree in International Affairs from the School of International Training in 1975. He earned aJ.D. from Columbia Law School in 1978.[1]

Roberts was nominated by PresidentBill Clinton (D) on January 27, 1998, to a seat vacated by JudgeCharles Richey when Richey assumedsenior status. Roberts was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 5, 1998, and received his commission onJune 23, 1998. He became Chief Judge of the court in 2013 and served until March 16, 2016.[1]
