Moloney ran in the2013 election forKentucky State Senate District 13. The seat was vacant followingKathy Stein's (D) resignation following her appointment as Fayette Family Court judge. Moloney was defeated byReggie Thomas (D) in the special election, which took place on December 10, 2013.[5][1][6][7]
