Richard Henry Mills is afederal judge for theUnited States District Court for the Central District of Illinois. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan. He is serving onsenior status.

Early life and education

A native ofIllinois, Mills graduated from Illinois College with his bachelor's degree in 1951, his J.D. from the Mercer University School of Law in 1957, and his L.L.M. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1982.[1]

Professional career

Mills started his legal career in private practice, and then worked as a State's Attorney for theCass County from 1960 until 1964. From 1966 through 1976, Mills served as a circuit court judge in the 8th Judicial Circuit of Illinois. From 1976 until his appointment to the federal bench, Mills served as a Justice on the Appellate Court of Illinois, Fourth District.[1]

Mills was nominated by PresidentRonald Reagan on June 25, 1985, to a seat vacated byJames Ackerman. Mills was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on July 19, 1985, and received commission onJuly 22, 1985. Mills assumedsenior status onOctober 7, 1997.[1] Mills was succeeded in this position byJeanne Scott.
