Rhesa Barksdale
Rhesa Hawkins Barksdale is afederal judge onsenior status with theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit. He was nominated by PresidentGeorge H.W. Bush in 1989 and confirmed by Senate in 1990.[1]
Early life and education
A native ofJackson, Mississippi, Barksdale graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point with his bachelor's degree in 1966 and from the University of Mississippi School of Law with hisJ.D. in 1972.[1]
Military service
After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy, Barksdale served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1970.[1]

Barksdale was nominated to theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit on November 17, 1989, to a seat vacated by JudgeAlvin Rubin. TheAmerican Bar Association rated BarksdaleSubstantial Majority Well Qualified, Minority Qualified for the nomination.[2] Hearings on Barksdale's nomination were held before theUnited States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on February 27, 1990, and his nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen.Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on March 8, 1990. Barksdale was confirmed by the unanimous consent of theU.S. Senate on March 9, 1990, and he received his commission on March 12, 1990. Barksdale assumedsenior status on August 8, 2009.[1][3] He was succeeded in this position by JudgeJames Graves.
