Philip Brimmer
Philip A. Brimmer (b.1959) is afederal judge for theUnited States District Court for the District of Colorado. He joined the court in 2008 after being nominated by PresidentGeorge W. Bush. Brimmer became chief judge of the court in 2019.[1]
Brimmer is aRepublican.[2]
Early life and education
Born in Rawlins,Wyoming, Brimmer graduated with a bachelor's degree from Harvard College in 1981, and earned aJ.D. degree from Yale Law School in 1985.[1]
Professional career
Brimmer was a law clerk for the Hon.Zita Weinshienk in theU.S. District Court for the District of Colorado from 1985 to 1987. Brimmer was a private practice attorney in Colorado from 1987 to 1994 before serving as the Deputy District Attorney for the Denver, Colorado District Attorney's Office until 2001. Brimmer served as the Chief Deputy District Attorney for the Denver, Colorado District Attorney's Office in 2001. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Colorado from 2001 to 2006, serving as the chief prosecutor of the major crimes section in 2006, and as the chief prosecutor of the special prosecutions section until 2008.[1]
Judicial career
District of Colorado
Brimmer was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the District of Colorado by PresidentGeorge W. Bush on July 10, 2008, to a seat vacated byLewis Babcock. Brimmer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 26, 2008, and received commission onOctober 14, 2008.[3] Brimmer became chief judge of the court, succeedingMarcia Krieger, in 2019.[1]
