It is an honor to serve in the Ohio House of Representatives at a time when the state legislature has never been more important. Our state government should work for everyone, not just the powerful and connected. I am running for re-election to continue to bring new leadership to Columbus, put families and communities before politics, and renew Ohio’s promise to make our state a place where you can live, work, and retire with dignity. As a senior executive and father of two children, I know what it is like to balance work and family. As a native Northeastern Ohioan, I will fight to increase investment in Ohio schools, make it easier to start and grow a small business, and support policies that ensure equal opportunities for all Ohioans. Everyone should have the opportunity to succeed.
  • A child’s zip code should not dictate their destiny, and every child deserves a high-quality education. I am deeply committed to investing in and improving Ohio schools and investing in early childhood education and universal preschool. I am also focused on ensuring that universities, community colleges, and trade and technical programs are more affordable and accessible. When it comes to education, I understand how important access and opportunity are to ensure children are set up for success.
  • As the son of two entrepreneurs, I understand the key to growing our economy and providing more economic opportunity is building the right environment for job creation. As a father raising two small children, I also understand the challenges families are facing across Ohio to feel a sense of economic certainty and stability. While the backbone of the state’s economy is small businesses, current state leadership continues to focus efforts and incentives on large corporations, often pitting communities against each other to keep businesses within city lines. Meanwhile, Ohio household incomes are not increasing and families are struggling to afford the rising costs of education, housing, and healthcare. There has been little focus on crea
  • I believe our government should work for all citizens, regardless of their race, sex, or zip code. I am committed to protecting voting access, addressing healthcare inequalities, expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare, working towards addressing income equality, and supporting a more just and inclusive Ohio. I will fight for everyone’s right to achieve the American Dream – no matter where they live, what they look like, or where they worship.
As the ranking member of the House Primary and Secondary Education Committee and Senior Executive of a national education nonprofit, I am passionate about investing in and improving Ohio schools, ensuring every child has access to a high quality education.

In office, I worked to expand access to quality education for all Ohio students and supported the 2019 state budget that made the largest investment in K-12 education in recent history, including a $625 million increase for wraparound care services.

I voted to create new graduation requirements, providing more pathways to a diploma, in addition to standardized testing. I worked to pass legislation to raise teacher salaries and provide a $250 deduction for out-of-pocket work-related expenses for teachers.

I co-sponsored legislation to overhaul Ohio’s public school funding formula, which the Ohio Supreme Court has ruled four different times to be unconstitutional. During my second term, I sponsored a bipartisan bill to revamp Third Grade Testing requirements, including eliminating retention.

When it comes to education, I understand how important access and opportunity are to set children up for success.

Scorecards

Ascorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
