Petrese Tucker
Petrese Tucker is afederal judge onsenior status with theUnited States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. She joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by PresidentBill Clinton (D). Tucker served aschief judge from 2013 to 2017.[1] Tucker assumedsenior status on June 1, 2021.[2]
Early life and education
Petrese Tucker was born inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania in 1951. She earned a bachelor's degree from Temple University in 1973. She earned aJ.D. from the Temple University School of Law in 1976.[1]
Professional career
Tucker began her career as a law clerk forPennsylvania Court of Common Pleas Judge Lawrence Prattis from 1976 to 1978 before spending one year as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Pennsylvania from 1977 to 1978. From 1978 to 1986, Tucker served as an assistant district attorney in the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. She served as an adjunct professor for the Great Lakes Colleges Association from 1984 to 1985. Tucker served as a senior trial attorney for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority Legal Department from 1986 to 1987 before becoming a Common Pleas Judge for the Court of Common Pleas of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from 1987 to 2000.[1]

Tucker was nominated by PresidentBill Clinton (D) on July 27, 1999, to a seat vacated byThomas O'Neill as O'Neill assumedsenior status. Tucker was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 24, 2000, on a Senate vote and received commission onJune 1, 2000. She became Chief Judge of the court in May 2013.[1]
