Pamela Rymer
Pamela Ann Rymer was afederal judge with theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in San Francisco. She joined the court in 1989 after being nominated by PresidentGeorge H.W. Bush. She passed away in September 2011.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Rymer graduated from Vassar College with her bachelor's degree in 1961 and later from Stanford Law School with herJ.D. degree in 1964.[2]
Professional career
Rymer was the Director of Political Research and Analysis for the "Goldwater for President" Committee in 1964. Rymer was a private practice attorney in California from 1966 to 1983 and also served as a member and chairman of the State of California'sCalifornia Post-Secondary Education Commission.[2]
Judicial career
Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Rymer was nominated to theUnited States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit by PresidentGeorge H.W. Bush onFebruary 28, 1989 to a seat vacated byAnthony M. Kennedy as Kennedy was appointed to Associate Justice of the United States for theSupreme Court of the United States. Rymer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate onMay 18, 1989 on the unanimous consent of the Senate and received commission onMay 22, 1989.[3]
Central District of California
On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Pete Wilson, Rymer was nominated to theUnited States District Court for the Central District of California byRonald Reagan onJanuary 31, 1983 to a seat vacated byWilliam Gray. Rymer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate onFebruary 23, 1983, and received commission onFebruary 24, 1983.[2] Rymer was succeeded in this position byRobert Bonner.
