Qualifications
Candidates for the elected members of the board must be:
- Qualified to vote in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands;
- At least twenty-five years old; and
- "A resident and domiciliary of the Commonwealth for at least five years immediately preceding the date on which a member takes office."[1]
Swearing-in dates
The board is composed of five voting members and three non-voting members, including a student representative. Each voting member serves a staggered four-year term beginning on the second Monday of January following the election. Elections for the Board of Education are nonpartisan.[2]
