TheNorth Dakota House Member Terms Referendum, also known asMeasure 3, was on theNovember 5, 1996 ballot inNorth Dakota as alegislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it wasapproved.[1] The measure changed the term of members of theNorth Dakota House of Representatives from two years to four years and authorize theLegislative Assembly to establish a procedure whereby one-half of the members of the house of representatives are elected biennially. The amendments took effect on July 1, 1997.[2]

Summary

This measure lengthened the term of members of the North Dakota House of Representatives from two to four years. This measure also provided that the legislative assembly should establish by law a procedure whereby one-half of the members of the North Dakota House of Representatives, as nearly as is practicable, are elected biennially.[3]
