Noah Haynes Swayne
Noah Haynes Swayne (1804-1884) was an Associate Justice on theSupreme Court of the United States. He joined the court in 1862 after a nomination from PresidentAbraham Lincoln. Swayne retired onJanuary 24, 1881. Prior to joining the court, Swayne was a private practice attorney in Columbus, Ohio.[1]
Swayne was one of five justices nominated to the Supreme Court by President Lincoln. He served duringThe Taney Court,The Chase Court andThe Waite Court.[2]

Swayne was nominated by PresidentAbraham Lincoln on January 21, 1862, to fill a seat vacated by JusticeJohn McLean. He was confirmed by the Senate onJanuary 24, 1862, and received commission that same day. Swayne retired onJanuary 24, 1881.[1] He was succeeded to this post by JusticeStanley Matthews.
