In New Jersey, there is one primary agency involved in statewidecampaign finance regulation: the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Authority

The Election Law Enforcement Commission is an independent agency responsible for the administration and enforcement of New Jersey election law. Candidates andpolitical action committees in New Jersey are required to report finances and expenditures to the commission. The commission is authorized to make the forms for finance reports, prepare reports for public inspection, investigate alleged violations of election law, and enact civil action in court against violators.[1][2][3]

Organization

The commission consists of four members, appointed by thegovernor with the consent of thestate senate. The governor appoints one member to serve as chairperson. Members are appointed to three-year terms. No two members of the commission may be of the same political party.[1][3]

The commission hosts an electronic system for campaign finance reports. The public may view disclosure reportshere.
