SAINT PAUL,Minnesota: TheMinnesota primaries are moving to August, following a vote by theSenate on March 1st. The bill still requires the governor's signature but according to reportsGov. Tim Pawlenty has indicated he will sign the bill into law.Sen. Terri Bonoff proposed the measure in an effort to ensure that all state residents, including those serving overseas. Originally scheduled forSeptember 14, the statewide primary will now be held onAugust 10.[1][2] Some lawmakers said they are worried the new summer date will result in lower voter turnout. In 2006, the latest gubernatorial election year, it was reported that 14 percent of registered voters voted in the primary.[3]
