Jurisdiction
The Minnesota Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals has exclusive, statewide jurisdiction to review workers' compensation cases on appeal. It is part of the executive branch, rather than the judicial branch.[1] It was created as an executive branch independent agency byChapter 175A of the Minnesota Statutes.
Selection method
The court has five judges who serve six-year terms. Judges are appointed by the governor and confirmed by theMinnesota State Senate. The governor appoints the chief judge, who is responsible for the administration of the court. Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals decisions can be appealed directly to theMinnesota Supreme Court.[1]
